THE LAST DAY was recorded at Restaurang Strömmen by Södermalmstorg, Slussen, in
Stockholm. The modernist building by Lars Fries opened in the mid-fifties and have had
the same name since the sixties. In March 2009 the restaurant announced its closure and
the recording took place the last opening day in dialogue with the guests. The closure also
marked the beginning of an end and could be seen as a sign of an area in change as major
redeveloping plans of Slussen is being debated. The video depicts the regulars watching the
view a last time. They know exactly when the ferries are about to enter the dock and when the
blue hour occurs and the water and the sky get the same shade of blue. Many of them have come
here several days a week for years. They share their memories from their first visits and describe
the feeling of being in a room almost floating in the air. The staff gets flowers. Everything while
the street life outside continues as usual.
